About the Role: UPS Industrial Services is in search of an industrial General Superintendent. This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising all activities at a specific jobsite such as daily construction, planning manpower, managing delivery of equipment and materials, and managing the budget. Superintendents set the tone for safety, efficiency, quality, and professionalism in person and through subordinate supervision. They provide constructability advice, confer with supervisory personnel and subcontractors in planning and executing work, interpret blueprints or other drawings to coordinate various phases of construction to prevent delays; resolve complaints and grievances, inspect work progress and craftsmanship, prepare and review various reports, adjusts work schedules, meets with and provides reports to the client as requested on job status or issues. This is a local maintenance project and does not pay per-diem so the ideal candidate must live within 50 miles of Chalmette, LA. The shifts are 5x8's Monday - Friday.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor the project team including direct and indirect reports.
  • Create, maintain, and execute the project plan and schedule, and ensure compliance within budget, and produce quality work.
  • Effectively communicates to ensure that performance, productivity, and safety requirements are met.
  • Collaborates with construction/project manager and project team.
  • Proactively manages potential problems, work interferences and schedule conflicts/setbacks.
  • Liaise between field engineers, estimators, and subcontractors to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
  • Liaises with client, supervision, and maintains subcontractor coordination and relations
  • Monitor equipment hours and usage
  • Plans and creates the project schedule, identifies the critical path, and anticipates constructability issues.
  • Develops and implements Project Execution Plan and lookahead schedules.
  • Follow up on RFI's, submittals, as-builts, and changes.
  • Works to ensure the implementation of UPS's safety program.
  • Monitors hiring, disciplining, and terminations.
  • Reviews and understands the contract and subcontracts
  • Develops a plan that identifies and mitigates risks
  • Maximizes opportunities to ensure that all financial targets, including budgets, forecasts, and profitability levels are met.
  • Develops and maintains strong customer focused relationships with all stakeholders.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of business practices and principles to project and monitor expenses
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, installation instructions, and other engineering/architectural drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
  • Thorough understanding of productivity rates or own forces work, Labor Cost Reports, and ability to interpret cost reports.
  • Ability to complete material, labor, and equipment takeoffs.
  • Thorough understanding of contract language with the ability to identify and mitigate risks as well as identify and leverage opportunities.

Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA Degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Union experience required.
  • 10 years' experience with Industrial Construction and progressive field supervision experience in the Refining, Petrochemical, or Power Generation industry.

Working Environment:

  • Outdoor/Plant Environment
