Description:

Job Summary:

Collects and handles blood specimens, consults with the Laboratory Team Leader, and maintains supplies in the phlebotomy section room. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also shows understanding of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precept phases of your orientation to your job.

  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify patients who present for testing correctly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collect and process specimens for testing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to correctly place orders for testing in the hospital's computer system.
  • Demonstrate the ability to monitor supply levels and order supplies accordingly.
  • Demonstrate safe laboratory work habits.
  • Demonstrate the ability to process lab specimens for testing promptly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask and prioritize workload.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

High school graduate or G.E.D. required

Work Experience:

None required. Phlebotomy experience preferred

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support

Ability to set priorities for tasks, communicate effectively, cooperate with others, perform

repetitive tasks, take orders, and follow directions precisely.
