Job Summary

Oversee a team responsible for inspections, repairs, maintenance, and modifications for cars and/or locomotives, utilizing production machinery and materials. Manage a team of 50 to 75 personnel, ensuring efficient use of resources, timely work completion, high-quality output, and adherence to budget constraints. Responsibilities extend to commuter, regional, and state mechanical operations, including contractor management and oversight of multiple sites.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair programs to enhance availability and reliability.
  • Provides primary leadership for shift or facility, ensuring effective communication of mechanical, safety, and material issues.
  • Utilizes Safety Management System to identify and address risks through analysis and execution.
  • Ensures compliance with Amtrak and regulatory requirements for rolling stock maintenance.
  • Manages scheduling and execution of work orders, overseeing proper documentation and recording of results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Plus 3 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Plus 5 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven leadership and decision-making abilities
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills demonstrated
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Familiarity with industry quality standards and ISO quality procedures
  • Understanding of mechanical crafts and labor contracts
  • Capability to identify and implement change initiatives to address persistent issues
