Patrol Officer

Patrolling, securing and protecting an assigned public park, or other public areas or buildings; and related work as required. Shift work and rotating assignments are required for this position.

Minimum age: 20 years*. High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent*. Licensed to drive* and a good driving record. Must be in good physical and psychological condition to perform the essential job functions. The following may be disqualifying:

a) Felony or numerous misdemeanor convictions. b) Unstable or unsatisfactory work history. c) History of illegal drug usage.

* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify age, education and drivers license claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification. Applicants must be eligible to secure a special officer's commission. This position requires a one (1) year probationary period.

A written test weighted 100%. If given a conditional offer of employment, a qualifying medical, including a psychological/psychiatric evaluation. Note: A background investigation will be conducted, which will include a urinalysis to detect usage of illegal narcotic substances, and a check of arrest and conviction record. All applicants are required to assist and cooperate with the Civil Service Department in obtaining past employment records, medical records or personal history information. Failure to comply may be cause for disqualification. This is an original entrance examination.
