- Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments
- Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
- Organizes, prepares, and updates basic financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
- Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
- Assists in preparing budgets and financial projections
- Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements basic solutions as needed
Job Description The Accountant performs general accounting duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and established policies and procedures. This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of financial transactions for the business unit, preparing financial reports, and assisting with budgeting and fiscal year-end activities. The Accountant works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to support sound financial operations and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Prepare and maintain financial statements, journal entries (monthly and year-end), accounts, ledgers, and reports within an automated financial system to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Analyze financial data and reports; identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and implement corrective actions as appropriate
- Reconcile accounting records and support sales tax and fiscal year-end reporting activities.
- Perform sales tax reporting, including monthly reconciliations, submission of payments to Accounts Payable, and filing returns with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue
- Prepare and/or approve financial transactions and payments in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Provide accounting guidance and respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, financial projections, and financial analyses.
- Collaborate with campus departments and the supervisor to support operational needs, improve processes, and participate in special projects, including Workday optimization

Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business OR two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, finance, or a closely related role
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for financial reporting and analysis
- Experience providing client-facing customer service or consultation, including explaining financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications - Advanced degree in accounting, business, or finance
- Experience using an ERP system, such as PeopleSoft or Workday Financial Management
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial records, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Experience with fiscal year-end close, financial reporting, audits, or sales tax compliance
- Experience working in a higher education or public sector environment
Target Salary Range $52,000 to $58,000 (Final salary offer will be determined based on knowledge, skills, and experience)
