Metal service centers provide customers with readily available aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals inventory and processing. Bayou Metal Supply & Manufacturing focuses on meeting customer needs of available metals in the marine and related industries. We provide inventory management services, and value-added metals processing, such as: precision router cutting with our three onsite CNC routers, cutting to length, plasma cutting, precision sawing and shearing, and more, before distributing these products to manufacturers and other end-users.

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of aluminum supply and fabrication programs supporting aluminum fabrication and marine manufacturing customers. This role ensures seamless coordination between sales, procurement, production, and logistics to deliver high-quality aluminum products and fabricated components on time, within budget, and in compliance with marine industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead multiple concurrent projects involving aluminum plate, extrusion, and fabricated assemblies for customers.
  • Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers on program status, risks, and deliverables.
  • Ensure alignment with project specifications, and delivery schedules.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with internal departments including sales, estimating, production, and supply chain.
  • Communicate project updates, risks, and mitigation strategies to executive leadership and clients.

Supply Chain & Aluminum Distribution Oversight

  • Optimize material flow to support fabrication schedules and minimize delays.

Fabrication & Production Coordination

  • Work closely with fabrication teams (cutting, machining, welding, forming) to ensure production meets customer specifications.
  • Monitor shop throughput, capacity constraints, and workflow efficiency.
  • Ensure fabrication processes meet marine-grade standards (e.g., ABS, NAVSEA, or other applicable certifications).

Compliance

  • Oversee documentation including material test reports (MTRs), traceability, and inspection records.
  • Support audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Performance Management

  • Track program cost controls and change orders.
  • Identify risks and implement corrective actions to maintain profitability.
  • Provide forecasting and reporting on program performance.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks in supply chain, production, and delivery schedules.
  • Develop mitigation strategies to avoid delays or cost overruns.
  • Manage change orders and scope adjustments effectively.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • Experience in program/project management within:
  • Aluminum distribution, metals industry, or
  • Fabrication/manufacturing environment, preferably supporting shipbuilding or marine sectors.
  • Experience using SolidWorks and other design programs.
  • Experience with Pro-nest or other nesting platforms.
  • Experience working with shipyards or marine OEMs strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and draw in Auto-cad Files.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of aluminum products (plate, sheet, extrusions) and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with welding, machining, and forming processes used in marine applications.
  • Knowledge of marine industry standards and certifications (ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, etc.).
