OverviewYour job is more than a job. The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate length of time for procedure.ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS and, if needed, reviews scans with the Radiologists for important anatomic detail and areas of abnormalities.Confirms patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure.Administers patient care according to department and hospital policies to ensure patient safety: communicates with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent, explains procedures, addresses questions, and fosters cooperation.Recognizes clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams; takes appropriate action to resolve them and produce desirable outcomes.Responds to and follows up on critical test findings. Acquires and evaluates patient lab values (e.g., BUN, creatinine, pregnancy, glucose) when applicable to ensure results fall within normal limits.Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Checks and inspects the suite, equipment, and accessories daily; troubleshoots malfunctions and reports hazards. Maintains a clean, orderly work area and manages supply levels.Maintains quality control checks in accordance with policy requirements; participates in department QC and PI programs; follows up on deficiencies; maintains sterile technique and adheres to aseptic practices.Completes ancillary tasks to support efficient and consistent departmental operations: accurately records required requisition information and inputs/verifies data in PACS/RADIANT.Education and ExperiencePreferred: Appropriate clinical training in a Radiologic Technologist program and healthcare experience as a radiology technologist.Licenses and CertificationsRequired: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart AssociationRequired: Radiology Technician (ARRT) – Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners (LSRTBE)Reporting RelationshipsDoes this position formally supervise employees?
